Did you know that 1 in 7 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer?  It is the second leading cause of cancer death for men in the United States.

signs of prostate cancerHowever, it is treatable if diagnosed early (90% of cases can be identified early) and can have a success rate for treatments of close to 100% for those that are identified and treated early enough.  What are the signs and symptoms that you should be looking for now?

1An Increase & Difficulty Urinating

This symptom may take the form of feeling like you have to go but finding that nothing comes out or,  stopping midstream, or having to go more often. A second sign along this same vein is difficulty stopping urinating.  This often takes the form of extended dribbling or the feeling that you still have to go even when you’re done. Because the prostate gland surrounds the urethra — the tube that carries both urine and semen — even a tiny tumor in this area can interfere with urination or ejaculation in men. However, it should be known that the prostate gland does become enlarged in many men as they age, and this enlargement, known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), is the more likely cause of urinary problems.

Pain While Urinating

This sign also may indicate that a prostate tumor is pressing on the urethra. While that is one cause, pain while urinating is also a classic symptom of a urinary tract infection. And in addition to those pain when peeing might be a sign of a prostate infection known as prostatitis.
