Since 2005 we are conducting 200-hours, 300-hours and 500-hours Hatha Yoga Teacher Training Programs that follow the Yoga Alliance framework. As a Yoga School, we are influenced by so many Great Sages from our Tradition, modern practitioners as well as thinkers and most of them reflect in our expressions of teaching. Long enough to plant the seed of love for yoga and create a habit of practicing asanas and pranayama every day.

What I most appreciated about the training was the fact that even if we had teachers for asanas, philosophy and anatomy, the greatest focus was on our being in touch with ourselves and being our own teachers. Deepa, one of our asana teachers, advised us to not conclude the practice for our students while we are delivering the yoga sessions. That, right there was so powerful for me. I started noticing and learning from her wording while she was leading the sessions. Neutral, no connotations, trusting that, during the session, we each were creating that what was appropriate for us and our bodies at that very moment. It made me feel so empowered and so grateful I would be sharing yoga with my students in a similar way, letting them become their own masters, not directing their attention to what would be important to me, trusting they understand what needs to be in place for them to fully experience the asanas, to unite the postures with the breathing, to reveal inner oneness and fully express themselves.Give Your Life StructureI enjoy structure in my life, just as much as I enjoy the creative chaos and being with the unknown. A regular day at Rishikesh Yog Peeth looks like this: waking up at 6 AM, having herbal tea, followed by Jala Neti (nasal cleansing with water), morning asana class, breakfast, anatomy class, philosophy class, lunch, free afternoon time, library time, alignment class, evening asana class, meditation and dinner. On Sundays, we’d have different activities each week: rafting, going to the Neer waterfall, visiting the ashram in the Himalayas.For those like me who don’t have a schedule back home, this month was very powerful. It helped me design what my perfect day looks like and implement that schedule for when I’d be back home.

Starting the day with yoga and meditation and finishing the same way is a way of living for me. Do you know that commercial “You’re not you when you’re hungry”? That’s exactly how it is for me without yoga and meditation. Asanas (yoga postures), pranayamas (breathing techniques) and meditation are essential, from my point of view, to have a happy, healthy and joyous life. Add to that healthy and mindful eating and overall behaviour, a sense of contribution through our actions, love and connection and that’s the receipt for a happy life. By the way, I did not mention about the delicious food we were having every day: freshly cooked and shared with friends, the perfect combination to support our bodies for the yoga practice.
